Abstract
The purpose of this study was to give an overview of the research related to epilepsy self-management.

Epilepsy self-management is the sum total of steps a person takes to control seizures and to control the effects of having a seizure disorder. Commonly used type of self-management practices employed to control epilepsy is taking medications as prescribed. Behavioral techniques used to control seizures constitute another type of self-management behavior.

Most research has concentrated on Medication compliance, and the results of this work may lead to change in clinical practice

Because self-management of epilepsy has not been examined to any great extent, it is recommended that research continue to investigate factors that are important to self-management.

Both current and future research will lead to a better understanding of factors associated with successful epilepsy self-management.
